Cientos de apartamentos con renders enrejados, con gente de stock, con aire acondicionado prometen un oasis ante la ausencia institucional, no es coincidencia que el boom de los conjuntos cerrados en Colombia se haya dado a finales de los años 90, el abandono y la incertidumbre ante la violencia urbana sigue siendo inminente. La inseguridad asalta el nervio, lo otro, el de afuera, encarna el miedo íntimo, es una fuente eterna de ansiedad y de hostilidad que valida la paranoia y el claustro moderno.

It's no coincidence that the boom in gated communities in Colombia began in the late 1990s. The abandonment and uncertainty in the face of urban violence remain imminent. Insecurity assaults the nerves; the other, the outside, embodies intimate fear, an eternal source of anxiety and hostility that validates paranoia and the modern cloister.
